About the original: The class E44, later designated 144 by the DB, was the first electric locomotive with 187 units produced, of which more than 100 were procured in Germany. The series was also the first to be equipped with the Tatzlager drive, which was used for several decades. The locomotives were produced from 1932-1945 and from 1950-1951. After the Second World War, the electric locomotives were used by both the DR and the DB. The DB took the locomotives out of service in 1984, the DR in 1991. Various examples of the locomotives are still preserved in museums today, for example in the DB museums in Halle and Koblenz, in the Nuremberg Transport Museum and in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin.
About the model: With the 144 001, Piko offers a visually and technically very convincing model. The appearance of the model is characterized by an excellent reproduction of the design of the original. Equipped with a large number of filigree components, such as handle bars, radiators, pantographs and many attached parts on the running gear, the result is a very detailed and true-to-original model. It is driven by a powerful motor with Plux22 interface, which ensures excellent running characteristics. The Plux22 interface makes it easy to retrofit a digital decoder and, if necessary, a loudspeaker.
