Roco 5510022 H0 7-Piece Set Nightjet ÖBB Era VI DCC with Interior Lighting
Would you like to run a modern night train with exceptional attention to detail and impressive lighting on your H0 model railroad layout? The seven-piece Roco ÖBB Nightjet car set brings Era VI international night train service right to your tracks. The train composition is modeled after the Zurich–Hamburg route and includes sleeping cars, couchette cars, a multifunctional car, and a control car. A particularly appealing feature is the design with SBB partnership decals on two cars, which gives this model train a high degree of realism. The finely detailed cars, built to a 1:87 scale, feature elaborately designed interiors, separately attached components, and integrated LED interior lighting. Thanks to the digital lighting functions and current-carrying couplers, the result is a night train with varied lighting effects that makes for an impressive display on your model railroad layout.
Prototype: ÖBB Nightjet in international night train service
The Nightjet stands for comfortable overnight travel and connects numerous cities across Europe’s rail network. Sleeper cars, couchette cars, and supplementary service areas allow for different travel options within a single train set. The Roco car set depicts a Nightjet on the Zurich–Hamburg route and features a special version with SBB partnership decals on two cars.
The seven-car set allows you to recreate a comprehensive Era VI night train. From sleeping cars and couchette cars to the multifunction car and control car, this versatile train formation realistically reflects modern international passenger service on your H0 layout.
Seven highly detailed cars for a complete Nightjet train
The Roco Nightjet set contains seven different cars that together form a varied train composition. The different car types create a harmonious overall look and allow you to depict various aspects of night train operations.
| Number | Car Type | Class |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | End-of-train sleeper car | WLAmz |
| 1 | Sleeper car | WLAmz |
| 3 | Couch car | Bcmz |
| 1 | Multifunctional car | ABbmpvz |
| 1 | Control Car | Bfmpz |
The entire train comes fully equipped right out of the box. This means the numerous added details are immediately visible upon unpacking. The seven cars provide an attractive foundation for operating a modern ÖBB night train.
High-quality craftsmanship and numerous added details
With this Roco Nightjet, the focus is on an exceptionally elaborate rendering of the vehicle details. The control car’s front end is finely crafted, while multi-part car floors with separately attached skirts ensure a realistic depiction of the vehicle’s undersides. The areas behind the skirts and the exposed components are also carefully designed.
The newly designed bogies are based on Siemens’ lightweight construction strategy. Separately attached disc brakes complement the technical appearance. The air conditioning units on the roofs, some of which are mounted separately, underscore the highly detailed design.
Another highlight is the car gangways. The connecting lines and hoses are factory-installed, creating a nearly seamless appearance when the train is coupled. At the same time, the cars are coupled as closely together as possible, resulting in a harmonious overall impression.
Elaborately Designed Interiors and Mini Cabins
The multi-part interiors feature numerous separately added details. Doors and mini cabins in the aisle areas are intricately printed. Cabins with varying designs—featuring both open and closed doors—add variety and give each car a unique character.
In addition, ladders in the cabins and luggage racks are separately installed. The multicolored driver’s cab rear wall also contributes to the high-quality overall impression. The side destination displays are flush-mounted and complement the modern design of the vehicles.
Digital Lighting and DCC Functions
The digital version of the Roco Nightjet is equipped with an extensive lighting system. All cars feature LED interior lighting and live couplers. Each car has its own LED circuit board with a different configuration. This creates a varied lighting pattern that convincingly conveys the impression of a bustling night train.
Additional lighting functions can be digitally controlled from the control car. These include the cab lighting, high beams, and other lighting functions. The direction-dependent switching between white headlights and red taillights enhances the realistic depiction of train operation. The destination displays are also illuminated.
The control car’s function decoder is integrated via a PluX16 interface. This allows the set to offer numerous possibilities for varied digital operation. The integrated interior lighting and current-carrying couplers enable continuous lighting throughout the entire train formation.
Compatibility and Space Requirements on the Model Railroad Layout
The seven-car set is designed for H0 gauge at a scale of 1:87 and is intended for digital DC operation. The proprietary coupler with close-coupling kinematics allows for a tight connection between the cars. For reliable operation, the specified minimum curve radius of 358 mm should be observed.
With a total length over buffers of 2,137 mm, the complete Nightjet requires sufficiently long track sections and platforms. The train looks particularly impressive on spacious main lines, when entering large stations, or on a layout with nighttime lighting.
For a prototypical train formation, we recommend combining it with a suitable ÖBB locomotive or a matching multiple-unit for international service. This allows you to vividly recreate the depicted Zurich–Hamburg route on your model railroad layout.
Roco Nightjet 5510022 – Modern Night Train with Impressive Lighting Effects
The seven-car Roco Nightjet car set combines an extensive train composition with high-quality craftsmanship and modern digital technology. The various car types, the detailed mini cabins, and the pre-installed LED interior lighting make this train an attractive addition for discerning model railroaders.
In particular, the elaborately designed car couplings, the separately attached details, and the custom-designed LED circuit boards set this set apart. The SBB partnership decals on two cars lend the train set an additional special character.
Expand your H0 model railroad layout with this impressive Era VI Nightjet and experience international night train service in miniature format.
