About the prototype: From 1928 to 1943, a total of 775 class 86 steam locomotives were delivered to the Reichsbahn. After 1945, 44 locomotives of this class were in service with the PKP. The 1,000 hp locomotives were designed for a speed of 70-80 km/h. In addition to their main area of operation on the "branch line" with freight and passenger trains, they were also used for shunting operations. The last locomotive of this class was withdrawn from the PKP fleet in 1975.
