The Roco 7110045 steam locomotive 38 2566 is a finely detailed edition model of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in Era IV. As a DC sound version, it offers realistic sound effects, modern LED technology and digitally switchable lighting functions - without dynamic steam output. The former Prussian P8 has been converted here as a class 38 in typical DR design with riveted tender and Witte wind deflectors and brings historically correct steam locomotive operation to your model railway layout.
Technology & equipment for digital operation
Equipped with a PluX22 digital decoder and integrated sound module, the model provides authentic operating sounds. The 3 headlights with LED technology change depending on the direction of travel. The locomotive also has switchable cab and engine lighting, which can also be controlled via the digital central unit. Two marker lights on the tender complete the typical DR look. The in-house coupling with close-coupling kinematics ensures safe wagon formation during operation.
Detailed DR design
The finest spoked wheels, the characteristic riveted tender and the Witte wind deflectors reflect the later design of the locomotive in DR service. Although it could originally be equipped with dynamic steam, this effect was deliberately omitted on this version - in favor of clear, reliable sound and lighting equipment. The locomotive's home in the Leipzig-Süd depot (Halle depot) refers to the typical area of operation in central Germany.
Historical context of the BR 38 2566
The Prussian P8 was one of the most frequently built passenger locomotives of its time and continued to be used in the GDR after the Second World War. The locomotive 38 2566 is representative of the long use of this class in modified form under DR direction - from commuter service to light express service.
