Roco 7110067 H0 Dampflok 64 415 VSM Ep.VI DCC-Sound Product Details

Roco 7110067 H0 Steam Locomotive BR 64 415 VSM Ep. VI DCC Sound – Historic Museum Steam Locomotive with Digital Sound

Would you like to experience a traditional museum steam locomotive with authentic sound on your H0 model railroad layout? The Roco 7110067 BR 64 415 steam locomotive from the Dutch museum railway Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) combines German railway history with modern digital technology. This Era VI model impresses with welded water tanks, exposed boiler pipes, and finely crafted metal wheel sets. Of particular interest are the spoked wheels on the leading and trailing axles, as well as the prototypical color accents on the cab and coal box. With its factory-installed sound decoder, the Roco 64 415 brings the special charm of historic museum train rides to your model railroad layout.

Prototype: The Class 64 – A Versatile German Standard Steam Locomotive

The Class 64 steam locomotives are among the best-known German standard-type tender locomotives. They were developed specifically for branch line service and, thanks to their compact design, were highly versatile. With a wheel arrangement of 1'C1' and a top speed of 90 km/h, these locomotives were suitable for both passenger trains and lighter freight service. Their characteristic side water tanks and the coal supply behind the cab allowed them to operate without a separate tender. After the end of their regular service, some of these popular locomotives were preserved and found a new home on museum railroads.

BR 64 415 – From a German branch line to the Dutch VSM

The history of steam locomotive 64 415 began in 1936 at the Arnold Jung Locomotive Factory in Kirchen an der Sieg. After decades of service, the locomotive was taken out of service in 1974. However, this by no means marked the end of its railway history: As early as 1976, the Dutch museum railroad Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) acquired the preserved locomotive. After an extensive overhaul, the 64 415 was returned to service in 1979. Since then, it has been one of the most significant historic vehicles in the VSM collection in Beekbergen. The Roco model captures this unique museum railroad history and depicts the locomotive in its operational condition from Era VI.

Welded water tanks & prototypical paint scheme

A distinctive feature of the Roco 7110067 is its design with welded water tanks. This characteristic design defines the appearance of the tender locomotive and distinguishes it from other variants of the Class 64 series. In addition, freestanding pipes on the boiler ensure a three-dimensional and highly detailed model design. Roco also takes into account the distinctive color accents of the full-scale prototype: Individual areas on the cab and coal bunker are color-contrasted to match the museum steam locomotive. This meticulous reproduction makes the BR 64 415 an attractive eye-catcher when pulled by historic passenger cars.

Fine Metal Wheel Sets & High-Quality Undercarriage Design

The Roco BR 64 415 impresses with its finely crafted steam locomotive undercarriage. Particularly noteworthy are the metal wheel sets as well as the spoked wheels on the leading and trailing axles. Together with the triple-coupled undercarriage, this creates a characteristic replica of the German standard tender locomotive. The exposed boiler pipes further enhance the prototype-accurate overall appearance. For particularly high-quality lettering, parts of the locomotive nameplates are also included as etched parts. This makes the model suitable for both discerning collectors and for regular operation on a historic museum railroad layout in 1:87 scale.

DCC digital operation with factory-installed sound decoder

A special highlight of the Roco 7110067 is its integrated digital and sound technology. The steam locomotive is designed for digital DC operation on H0 two-wire layouts and comes equipped with a sound decoder right from the factory. The electrical interface complies with the NEM 652 standard and features a plug-in connector. The locomotive and its sound functions can be controlled via a compatible DCC digital control center. The steam locomotive’s sound effects create an atmospheric ambiance, especially when pulling away with a historic passenger train, during shunting maneuvers, or on a leisurely museum railway ride. No additional decoder retrofit is required for the intended digital operation and sound features.

Five-pole motor with flywheel & LED headlight

To ensure smooth running characteristics, the Roco 64 415 features a five-pole motor with a flywheel. Three axles are powered, while one axle is equipped with traction tires to assist with traction. This makes the compact tender locomotive well-suited for use with compatible museum and tourist trains. The model features a direction-dependent LED three-light headlight at both ends of the vehicle. Together with the integrated sound functions, the lighting creates a striking effect during historic train journeys. With a length over buffers of 143 mm and a minimum curve radius of 358 mm, the locomotive can be used on appropriately designed H0 track layouts.

Authentic Museum Trains & Versatile Applications

The Roco 7110067 is ideal for H0 model railroads focused on Era VI museum railroad operations. The BR 64 415 pairs particularly well with historic passenger cars to form a classic museum train. Older freight cars also offer interesting possibilities for depicting special museum railroad trips. A nostalgic railroad route with historic stations, a small steam locomotive depot, and varied scenery provides the ideal backdrop. The NEM 362 coupler sockets with close-coupling kinematics allow for coupling with compatible cars. This makes it possible to recreate the museum train runs of the Dutch VSM in a variety of ways.

A special DCC sound model for VSM collectors and museum railroad enthusiasts

The Roco 7110067 combines the history of a traditional German standard-gauge steam locomotive with its extraordinary second career on the Dutch VSM museum railroad. The welded water tanks, exposed piping, and finely detailed metal wheel sets make the BR 64 415 an attractive addition for discerning model railroading enthusiasts. In particular, the prototypical paint details on the cab and coal bunker give the model a high degree of recognizability. The factory-installed sound decoder complements the detailed design with an impressive acoustic experience. For collectors of historic steam locomotives, enthusiasts of the Class 64, and fans of European museum railroads, this model is an excellent choice. Get the Roco VSM BR 64 415 with DCC sound and bring a fascinating piece of living steam locomotive history to your H0 model railroad layout!
