The class 118 diesel locomotive - formerly the V 180 - was one of the DR's first heavy diesel types and was produced by VEB Lokomotivbau "Karl Marx" in Babelsberg from 1962. The locomotive reproduced here with the road number 118 158 was based in the Rostock depot of the Schwerin station.
