Roco 78141 H0 Steam locomotive 053 129-3, DB, Era IV, AC sound: The last generation of freight train classics
With the Roco 78141 steam locomotive 053 129-3, Roco brings an impressive model of the legendary class 50 to your H0 layout. These locomotives shaped the freight traffic of the German Federal Railroad for decades. In Era IV, they carried the new EDP numbering system - so the original BR 50 became the 053 129-3. The locomotive was equipped with a typical tub tender, had disk leading wheels and carried the DB cookie on the driver's cab - all faithfully reproduced in the model.
The BR 50 was one of the most versatile and successful steam locomotive series in Germany. Around 3,100 units were built between 1939 and 1948. They proved themselves in freight train service on main and branch lines as well as in heavy shunting service. After the introduction of the EDP series scheme in 1968, over 1,450 machines were still in service with the DB - robust, reliable and powerful with a top speed of 80 km/h and around 1,200 kW of power.
The model impresses with a multitude of fine details: separately applied plug-in parts, etched signs for individualization and fine metal wheel sets. The tender is equipped with close coupler linkage (KK kinematics), as is the interface in accordance with NEM 652. The model is driven by seven axles, two of which have traction tires. A flywheel mass ensures smooth running characteristics. The model is designed for 3-wire AC operation and is factory-equipped with a digital sound decoder (MX645R). A smoke generator (Seuthe No. 11) can be retrofitted.
The lighting is also prototypical: The LED headlights change between the ends of the vehicle depending on the direction of travel. With a length over buffers of 265 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is perfect for detailed Era IV layouts.
