Class 59 and the Geislingen Steige
The former Württemberg K was designed for demanding steep routes and, together with Class 193, forms one of the main themes marking the Geislingen Steige anniversary in 2025.
Geislingen Steige, 100 years of Class 01, completely new Class 186, Regio Shuttle RS1, Wismar rail bus and international freight themes: the Trix 2025 model year combines classic railway history with modern H0 two-rail digital technology.
The Trix News 2025 | H0 DC Models brings together a model year in which Trix combines important railway anniversaries with genuine new engineering projects and modern digital technology. Trix clearly represents H0 two-rail DC here. Modellers using Märklin H0 centre-contact track can often find related AC versions from Märklin, while N gauge within the same brand family is covered by Minitrix.
The programme supports very different layout concepts. The Geislingen Steige leads into heavy historic freight traffic, Class 01 into prestigious Reichsbahn express services, Class 186 into modern international freight operation and the Regio Shuttle into present-day regional services. The short Wismar rail bus also shows that a complete railway theme is possible even on a compact H0 layout.
Many 2025 Trix locomotives use digital decoders supporting DCC and mfx and, on suitable models, RailCom. Extensive sound functions, LED lighting and buffer capacitors complement the digital equipment. Buffer storage can be especially useful in normal layout operation because it can bridge brief interruptions in electrical contact.
The programme is strongest when locomotives and coaches or wagons are considered together. The Class 01 can be combined with the FD 226 and the newly developed baggage and mail coach PwPost4ü-28. Class 193 suits heavy freight trains. Modern Class 186 variants work with container, pocket and tank wagons, while the RS1 and VT 88.9 provide complete operating concepts without requiring a long rake of coaches.
The original programme remains fully represented in the editorial sections. The product finder, however, displays only current English product pages that are explicitly assigned to New Products 2025. Class 59 is an essential part of the historical 2025 story, but its former Trix product page is now archived and is therefore deliberately not linked as a current purchase product.
The former Württemberg K was designed for demanding steep routes and, together with Class 193, forms one of the main themes marking the Geislingen Steige anniversary in 2025.
Green 193 008-0 from Kornwestheim brings classic heavy Deutsche Bundesbahn freight operation of the 1970s to an H0 layout.
The FD 226 theme combines Class 01 with historic passenger coaches and the newly developed PwPost4ü-28 baggage and mail coach.
The modern multi-system locomotive was newly engineered and features finely detailed pantographs, buffer storage and numerous digital lighting functions.
At around 30 cm long and equipped with interior lighting, sound and versions for different operators, the RS1 provides a modern regional and branch-line theme.
The Wismar rail bus is only around 13.5 cm long but still combines sound, interior lighting and buffer storage in a remarkably compact vehicle.
Later 2025 additions expanded the range with the powerful Stadler Euro9000, featuring extensive digital functions and movable pantographs.
Class 19.0 also expands the model year as a major historic steam locomotive and demonstrates the programme's breadth from modern freight operation to classic Reichsbahn themes.
The Geislingen Steige, opened in 1850, is one of Germany's best-known steep railway routes. For Trix, its anniversary in 2025 provided an ideal opportunity to combine two very different forms of traction. The heavy Class 59 steam locomotive, originally the Württemberg K, represents the early history of powerful locomotives built for steep routes. The later Class 193 represents heavy electric freight operation under the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
Trix 25873 represents locomotive 193 008-0 in approximately 1976 condition. The chrome-oxide-green locomotive is allocated to Kornwestheim depot and features a digital decoder, sound, cab lighting, starting lamp and double-A lighting. Two axles in each bogie are driven through cardan shafts. The model therefore works not only as an anniversary locomotive but also as a credible motive-power choice for heavy Era IV freight trains.
Rock faces, retaining walls, embankments and long gradients immediately create the atmosphere of a mountain or steep main line. Class 193 looks particularly convincing in front of a long freight train. Class 59 remains part of the historical 2025 theme but is deliberately not linked because its former shop page is archived.
The second major anniversary of the year is the 100th birthday of Class 01. Trix treats this subject not only with an individual locomotive but with a complete passenger-train concept. The DRG Class 01 can be combined with the FD 226 express coaches to recreate high-quality long-distance travel in the 1930s.
Coach set 23650 plays an important role. Alongside two AB4ü-28 express coaches, it contains the newly developed PwPost4ü-28 baggage and mail coach. The coaches feature factory-fitted LED interior lighting, buffer capacitors and close-coupling mechanisms. Combined with a suitable Class 01, the result is a complete historic long-distance train rather than an isolated anniversary locomotive.
A coordinated train makes prototypical planning considerably easier. Platform length, era, coach order, lighting and suitable traction are already thematically connected. On an H0 main line, a complete express train appears far more convincing than a random collection of unrelated coaches.
Class 186 is one of the most important new engineering projects in the Trix 2025 programme. The prototype is a TRAXX multi-system locomotive for cross-border European operation. Different electrical systems and signalling equipment allow international use – an ideal theme for modern H0 main lines.
The metal model has numerous separately applied details, fine roof wiring and several newly designed pantographs with different contact strips. Its high-performance drive acts through cardan shafts on all four axles. Digital decoder, sound, buffer storage, high beam, double-A lighting, cab lighting and driver's-desk lighting create a function range that is also genuinely useful in normal layout operation.
The original 2025 overview announced three variants of the newly developed Class 186. Today's 2025 shop range includes further versions from the model family, including subjects associated with DB AG, HSL, ECR and Akiem. The same basic tooling can therefore support German, French, Benelux and Swiss-Italian freight themes.
The modern RS1 represents regional passenger traffic on non-electrified routes. The Trix model is almost 30 cm long and features a digital decoder, sound, LED interior lighting and extensive lighting functions. The design also permits multiple operation.
Three variants were originally announced. The current live finder displays only those 2025 product pages that are still active today.
The Wismar rail bus takes the opposite approach. At only around 13.5 cm long, it is particularly suitable for short branch-line stations and compact layouts. Despite its size, the model includes sound, interior lighting, driver's-desk lighting and buffer storage.
Trix offered the historic rail bus in German and Belgian versions, making it suitable both for small Era III branch lines and an unusual international operating theme.
Modellers with very limited space and an interest in historic operation may find the VT 88.9 especially attractive. The RS1 requires more length but is ideal for modern Era VI, short regional platforms, halts and contemporary infrastructure. Both vehicles can provide complete shuttle or terminus operation without an additional coach formation.
Trix H0 uses 1:87 scale and the standard H0 track gauge of 16.5 mm. Unlike the traditional Märklin centre-contact system, current is collected through the two running rails. Trix therefore belongs to the H0 two-rail or H0 DC system environment and can be combined with many compatible two-rail track systems.
| Feature | Trix H0 | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | 1:87 | strong visual detail and an extensive accessory range |
| Track Gauge | 16.5 mm | standard-gauge H0 |
| Electrical System | Two-Rail DC | no centre-contact pickup shoe required |
| Digital | DCC / mfx / sometimes RailCom | modern digital functions on two-rail layouts |
| Track System | Trix C Track | robust roadbed track designed for two-rail operation |
Many prototypes appear within the brand family as both a Märklin AC / centre-contact model and a Trix DC / two-rail model. The decisive factor is the existing electrical and track system. Two-rail users should choose the Trix version. Märklin C Track or K Track with centre contact requires the corresponding Märklin version.
The N-gauge brand in the same manufacturer family is Minitrix. Trix News 2025 and Minitrix News 2025 should therefore not be mixed. A separate landing page covers the 1:160 N-gauge models.
