Description

Lok Schlosserei VB 140 602 sidecar, DR, Ep. III Product Details

Model of the sidecar VB 140-602. VB 140 In 1926, the DRG procured a small series of four diesel-mechanical railcars VT 801...804.

About the prototype: After the 2nd World War, two railcars each were found at the later DB and the DR. The two railcars remaining with the DR were converted into sidecars as early as the beginning of the 1950s. The set-back middle doors were removed from coach VB 140 602 so that it had flat side walls. The toilet was moved to the area of the former middle door. A boiler room was created opposite the toilet so that the coach could be heated autonomously; it did not have a window. This coach therefore had passenger compartments of different sizes, each with two or three compartments. The vestibules at the ends of the carriage and the end walls remained largely unchanged. The coach was painted red/ivory, as was common for railcars of the time. It was used on branch lines in the north of the GDR. It is known to have been used on the Rövershagen - Graal-Müritz line on the Baltic coast near Rostock. But it is also known to have been used in the Prignitz region. Because of the autonomous heating, it usually ran with diesel locomotives of the V20, V36 and V15 / V23 series or behind old railcars. After being re-designated as 190 851-6, it was mainly used for staff trips between West Berlin and Berlin. It ended its days of service as a car of the RBD Berlin construction office and received its last inspection on 28.2.76 at RAW Schöneweide. This car has been preserved in this form to this day and can be viewed on individual days at the Museum of Transport and Technology in Berlin. However, it is not one of the vehicles on permanent display.

The other car remaining with the DR (ex. VT 804) was converted into a lounge car. It retained its original coach body, two windows on each side were closed, the remaining ones were fitted with wooden window frames. It last belonged to the Reichsbahn-Baudirektion, Stahlbau Dessau, Brückenwerkstatt Dresden and was stationed in Dresden with the number 99-23705-5.
