PIKO 21840 - H0 Class 248 "Vectron Dual Mode" SETG dual-power locomotive, Era VI with sound

The Piko 21840 is the digitized DC sound version of the ultra-modern Vectron Dual Mode locomotive class 248 in the design of the private freight railroad SETG. With this 2026 novelty, PIKO brings the flexible technology of the innovative Siemens dual-power concept to the model railroad layout in true detail - including a factory-installed PIKO sound decoder and extensive lighting functions.

The Vectron Dual Mode combines diesel drive and overhead line operation in one locomotive. This means that it can run on electricity on electrified lines in an environmentally friendly way and efficiently on diesel on non-electrified sections - a future-proof concept for flexible freight transportation that is also being introduced into the H0 system with this model implementation.

Digital equipment with sound

Thanks to PIKO TrainSound® onboard, the locomotive offers a comprehensive sound experience: realistic starting and braking noises, diesel engine running, fan, signal horn and more can be called up via your digital control center. The PluX22 sound decoder is factory-fitted, as is a large-volume loudspeaker for brilliant sound reproduction.

Lighting & special functions

The locomotive is equipped with numerous lighting functions: direction-dependent light change in white/red, digitally switchable driver's cab and engine room lighting as well as an illuminated driver's desk display ensure an authentic operating atmosphere. All light sources use long-life LED technology.

Optics & attention to detail

The roof equipment with freely rotating fan wheel and a metal scissor pantograph are real eye-catchers. Further highlights: fine fan grilles, detailed bogies, a view into the engine room as well as free-standing windshield wipers and handrails. This locomotive is a real gem for any modern layout.

Dimensions & traction

With a length over buffers of 230 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is suitable for use on main and branch lines. Two traction tires guarantee powerful traction - even with long freight trains. Coupling is via NEM shafts with close coupler link.

SETG uses the class 248 for modern freight transportation in Germany and beyond - efficient, flexible and environmentally friendly. The model allows the realistic reproduction of these operating procedures on the model railroad - from the shunting yard to the main line.
