PIKO 97505 H0 Rh 1000 electric locomotive, NS, Ep. IV, DC sound
The class 1000 electric locomotives of the Dutch State Railways (NS) are among the most striking designs in European post-war railroad construction. Their technical basis is based on the SBB Ae 4/6 from Switzerland. In contrast to their Swiss counterparts, however, the Dutch locomotives were designed for the NS direct current network. This adaptation was necessary in order to be able to use the vehicles efficiently in the national electricity system.
Operational profile and historical significance
Although originally intended for express train service between the major Dutch cities, the 1000 series was mainly used for freight train service during its service life from 1948 to 1982. Its performance characteristics were particularly suitable for heavy trains, which led to a wide range of applications. Of the total of ten locomotives produced, only the 1010 is still in existence today. It stands as a technical monument in the railroad museum in Utrecht and is a reminder of a formative era in Dutch railroads.
Model with digital sound and light control
The PIKO model 97505 is a form variant of the Rh 1000 and impresses with a high degree of faithfulness to the original. Equipped with a factory-fitted PluX22 sound decoder, it offers access to the PIKO TrainSound® system and enables acoustically realistic implementation in model operation. The driver's cab and engine room lighting are digitally switchable and provide a harmonious lighting atmosphere depending on the operating situation.
Detailing and technology at a high level
Two metal scissor pantographs, a harmonious paint scheme and precise printing give the model a high-quality appearance. With a length over buffers of 187 mm, the model can also be used on more compact layouts. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white and red as well as the driver's desk lighting round off the appearance. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM 658 PluX22 interface and two traction tires for reliable traction.
For model railroaders with Era IV direct current systems
The locomotive is intended for operation on DC systems and is suitable for a minimum radius of 358 mm. Thanks to the NEM shaft and close coupler link, the model can be easily and reliably integrated into train sets. The PIKO 97505 thus offers a successful combination of prototypical features, digital equipment and mechanical reliability for demanding model railroaders aged 14 and over.
