PIKO 97506 H0 Rh 1000 electric locomotive, NS, Ep. IV, AC sound
The class 1000 electric locomotives of the Dutch State Railways (NS) are among the most interesting designs in the Dutch railroad system of the post-war period. Their basic mechanical concept goes back to the Swiss SBB Ae 4/6, whose design and technology served as a model. Unlike the Swiss original, however, the Dutch version was designed for the domestic direct current network and not for alternating current operation. This technical design was necessary in order to integrate it into the NS network and to be able to operate it there permanently.
Use and special features of the Rh 1000
Originally, the ten locomotives built were intended for express train services between the major cities in the Netherlands. In reality, however, it soon became apparent that their performance characteristics were particularly well suited to heavy freight train services. During their service life from 1948 to 1982, they were used almost exclusively for freight traffic. Of the ten locomotives built, only the 1010 remains today. It can be viewed in the railroad museum in Utrecht and is an important testimony to Dutch railroad history.
Model version with digital sound and light
The PIKO 97506 is designed as a form variant and impresses with a large number of digitally controllable functions. A PluX22 sound decoder is installed at the factory, which in combination with the PIKO TrainSound® system creates realistic soundscapes. Both the driver's cab and the engine room lighting can be switched digitally and ensure an impressively realistic representation in operation. The model is also mfx®-compatible, which makes integration into modern digital systems particularly convenient.
Highly detailed design and robust technology
Two finely crafted metal scissor pantographs are just as much a part of the equipment as a harmonious paintwork and precise printing. The length over buffers is 187 mm, which means that the model can also be used well on compact layouts. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white and red emphasizes the true-to-operation appearance. The model also offers a solid technical basis for digital operation thanks to the built-in sound decoder and the modern interface in accordance with NEM 658.
For experienced Era IV AC model railroaders
The locomotive is designed for AC operation and can easily be used on layouts with a minimum radius of 358 mm. The close coupler link with NEM shaft ensures reliable connections in the train set. With its combination of technical sophistication, digital sound and detailed design, the PIKO 97506 is aimed at ambitious model railroaders aged 14 and over who place particular value on prototype fidelity and technical versatility.
