The S 10.1 was not a simple further development of the S 10, but an independent new design with a four-cylinder composite engine based on the De Glehn design. Thanks to this design, it was not only more powerful, but also significantly more efficient in terms of carbon consumption. The outer and inner cylinders worked on different coupling axles, which ensured an even distribution of power. Between 1911 and 1914, a total of 152 locomotives were built - 135 for Prussia and 17 for Alsace-Lorraine. The locomotive was thus an integral part of the high-quality express train service in the German Empire.
