Description

Roco 7180017 TT steam locomotive 18 201, DR, Ep. IV Product Details

Roco steam locomotive 18 201 - TT, DR, Era IV

The Roco 7180017 brings the famous express locomotive 18 201 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn to the TT layout as a special model "65 years 18 201". The model shows the locomotive for the first time in the operating condition of the late 1980s with authentic DR lettering and impresses with its detailed realization and finest printing.

Design & workmanship

The model is equipped with flawless printing, precise decorative lines and fine DR lettering. Separately attached lines, grab irons and realistic proportions give the locomotive an authentic appearance. The locomotive has the design of the Halle P depot (Rbd Halle) and ideally complements the matching Roco passenger coaches of Era IV.

Technology & equipment

The model is powered by a 3-pole motor with a flywheel that drives two axles. Two traction tires provide additional traction. The lighting is provided by a 3 headlight at both ends of the vehicle, which switches depending on the direction of travel and is designed with modern LED technology. The locomotive is designed for DC analogue operation and is equipped with an NEM-651 interface for easy digitization.

Historical background

The 18 201 is a legend of German locomotive construction. It was built in 1960/61 at the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk Meiningen from parts of several locomotives, including the Henschel-Wegmann train locomotive 61 002 and a BR 41. With a new BR 22 boiler, extended smokebox, Giesl ejector and back pressure brake, it reached speeds of up to 175 km/h, later 180 km/h - making it the fastest operational steam locomotive in Europe. In 1967, it was fitted with an oil main firing system and in 1970 it was given the computer number 02 0201-0. By the 1980s, it was already known as a traditional locomotive and was frequently used for special trips, including for western tour operators. In 1985, it was allowed to travel to the West for the first time and was an attraction at the 150th anniversary of the German railroads in Nuremberg.

Compatibility & possible uses

The locomotive is suitable for DC analogue systems and can be digitized thanks to the NEM-651 interface. It is ideal for use in front of express and special trains as well as traditional trains of Era IV and fits perfectly with Roco carriages of this era.

Purchase arguments & target group

The 18 201 is a real highlight for collectors and model railroaders. It combines speed, elegance and historical significance. With its authentic DR design from the 1980s, it is a must-have for DR enthusiasts and fans of steam locomotive history.
