Roco steam locomotive 44 0989-2 - TT, DR, Era IV, with sound
The Roco 7190015 represents the powerful steam locomotive 44 0989-2 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. With a new boiler, oil tender and fine detailing, this model brings Era IV impressively to the TT layout. Equipped with digital sound and modern technology, it is a must for fans of heavy freight steam locomotives.
Design & workmanship
The model is equipped with a new boiler and an oil tender. The simplified "ÜK driver's cab" is implemented in great detail. Numerous separately applied parts such as lines, grab irons and fine printing ensure a realistic appearance. The locomotive looks particularly authentic due to its sturdy construction and the typical DR style of Era IV.
Technology & equipment
The model is powered by a 3-pole motor with a flywheel that drives two axles. Two axles are equipped with traction tires to increase tractive power. The lighting is provided by a 3 headlight which is switched depending on the direction of travel and is designed using LED technology. A Next18 sound decoder is integrated for digital control, which provides authentic operating sounds. The model is designed for DC digital operation.
Historical background
The class 44 was the backbone of the heavy freight train service in Germany. Many of the engines remaining after 1945 were converted to oil firing by the DR. Their enormous tractive power earned them the nickname "Jumbo". Based in the Sangerhausen depot (Erfurt station), the 44 0989-2 was in service until the 1980s. The last 44s were taken out of service by the DR in 1986, marking the end of an era of powerful steam giants.
Compatibility & possible uses
The locomotive is suitable for DC digital operation in TT scale and is equipped with a modern Next18 interface. It is ideal for use in front of long, heavy freight trains on main lines and brings impressive tractive power to the model railroad.
Purchase arguments & target group
This model is ideal for model railroaders who are looking for a typical DR freight steam locomotive with authentic sound functions. With its new boiler, oil tender and detailed design, the 44 0989-2 is aimed equally at collectors and operating railway enthusiasts.
