What Is TX Logistik?

TX Logistik is a European railway undertaking specialising in rail freight transport. The company was founded in 1999 and has been wholly owned by the Italian Mercitalia Logistics Group since 2017. TX Logistik is therefore part of the freight-transport operations of the FS Italiane Group.

Connections along the European north–south axis are particularly important. Freight trains link seaports, industrial areas and transhipment terminals in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Scandinavia and other European countries. Many services cross the Alps and connect German terminals with destinations in northern Italy.

Combined transport accounts for a significant proportion of these services. Semi-trailers, containers and swap bodies are transported over long distances by rail, while only the first and final sections are normally completed by road. On a model railway, this produces varied trains consisting of pocket wagons, articulated wagons, container wagons and differently branded loading units.

The current TX Logistik fleet belongs mainly to Era VI . Modern multi-system locomotives, international vehicle numbers, leased vehicles and cross-border freight corridors are typical features of rail transport since 2007.

Locomotives, wagons and distinctive liveries

Which Vehicles Define TX Logistik?

The visual identity is shaped by modern electric locomotives and long freight trains. In addition to company-owned or long-term vehicles, TX Logistik also uses locomotives supplied by several leasing companies.

Siemens Vectron Class 193

The Vectron is designed for international operation under different electrical and train-protection systems. TX Logistik uses numerous multi-system locomotives. Model versions include standard corporate liveries as well as distinctive advertising and themed locomotives.

Suitable train types

Pocket-wagon trains, container trains, tank trains and international transit services.

TRAXX Classes 185 and 186

Locomotives from the TRAXX family shaped European freight transport before the widespread introduction of the Vectron. Multi-system versions can operate across national borders and are particularly suitable for trains representing the early and middle years of Era VI.

Livery tip

The locomotive livery should match the year represented on the layout and the selected freight corridor.

TRAXX AC3 Class 187

Class 187 combines modern three-phase technology with an angular body design. Models are available with Railpool and TX Logistik lettering and are suitable for contemporary intermodal, automotive and industrial services.

Technical note

Check the electrical system, digital decoder, sound functions and supported minimum radius before purchasing.

Leased Locomotives

Not every locomotive used by TX Logistik is owned by the company. Vehicles may be supplied by leasing companies such as Railpool or ELL. A model can therefore carry the logos of both the owner and the actual operator.

For the model railway

A leased locomotive is a realistic way to use several different vehicle designs in front of a TX freight train.

T3000e and Pocket Wagons

T3000e double-pocket articulated wagons transport semi-trailers, swap bodies and containers. They are among the most important wagon types used in modern intermodal trains crossing the Alps.

Loading units

Semi-trailers carrying different logistics-company liveries create a varied but still consistent train appearance.

OFFROAD and Themed Locomotives

Distinctive advertising locomotives are a characteristic feature of modern freight railways. The “OFFROAD” design emphasises that goods are being moved by rail rather than exclusively by road. These models create a strong focal point on a layout.

Recommended train

A complete pocket-wagon train reinforces the message of the special locomotive design.

In Which Gauges Are TX Logistik Models Available?

Gauge Scale Model Selection Suitable Layout Concept Planning Advice
H0 1:87 Vectron, Class 187, advertising locomotives, AC and DC versions and T3000e pocket wagons. International main line, freight terminal or Alpine freight corridor. Long articulated wagons and lengthy trains require generous curves and sufficiently long passing loops.
TT 1:120 Individual TX locomotives and special editions appear depending on the production series; numerous suitable freight wagons are available. Long transit freight trains on a medium-sized layout. Check regularly for reissues and available running numbers.
N 1:160 Pocket wagons, container wagons, sliding-tarpaulin wagons and numerous suitable loading units. Long intermodal and transit freight trains with prototypical train lengths. N gauge is particularly suitable for terminals and multi-track freight corridors within a limited area.
Z 1:220 No extensive current TX Logistik range in the checked shop selection. Modern European freight railway using comparable Vectron and intermodal vehicles. Special editions and custom lettering can supplement the theme.
0, 1 and G varies No extensive regular TX Logistik programme in the current shop selection. Individual model, display piece or custom-lettered modern freight locomotive. Custom conversions require a suitable base model and precise prototype documentation.
From pocket wagons to conventional freight trains

How Do You Build a TX Logistik Train?

The locomotive alone does not create a convincing train. Wagons, loading units, route setting and the visible operator should be considered together. Long intermodal trains running between terminals in northern and southern Europe are especially characteristic.

Intermodal Train with T3000e Wagons

A typical train consists of several articulated double-pocket wagons carrying semi-trailers, containers or swap bodies. Different transport-company liveries are prototypical, provided the wagons and loading units belong to the same general era.

  • a Vectron or TRAXX locomotive,
  • four to ten T3000e or T5 wagons,
  • semi-trailers from different logistics companies,
  • a terminal, port or trans-Alpine main line.

Trans-Alpine Transit Freight Train

Long container and pocket-wagon trains are suitable for routes with Austrian, Swiss or Italian influences. Tunnel portals, protective galleries, overhead wiring, distant signals and block posts create an appropriate setting.

  • a multi-system Vectron with four pantographs,
  • a long and consistent sequence of freight wagons,
  • a passing loop for following passenger traffic,
  • subtle weathering on wagons and running gear.

Conventional Freight Train

TX Logistik does not have to be represented exclusively with pocket wagons. Tank wagons, sliding-tarpaulin wagons, coil wagons, car transporters and container wagons create further convincing formations. A block train looks consistent, while a mixed freight train provides more shunting opportunities.

Compact Train for a Small Layout

Four or five wagons are sufficient to make the theme recognisable. An advertising locomotive, two pocket wagons, one container wagon and one sliding-tarpaulin wagon create a varied formation without completely overwhelming the station.

The selection includes direct TX Logistik models as well as wagons suitable for realistic intermodal, container and industrial trains. Check the electrical system and decoder for locomotives and the minimum radius, coupling, loading unit and existing running numbers for wagons.

H0 Gauge – TX Locomotives and T3000e Pocket Wagons

H0 offers the largest direct TX selection. Several locomotives are available as analogue two-rail models, digital sound versions and Märklin-compatible centre-contact models.

Questions and easy-to-understand answers

Frequently Asked Questions About TX Logistik Model Trains

Is TX Logistik a Forwarding Company or a Railway Company?

TX Logistik is a railway undertaking and logistics company specialising in European rail freight transport. The company organises and operates freight trains, particularly combined transport between terminals, ports and industrial centres.

Which Model Railway Era Does TX Logistik Belong To?

TX Logistik was founded in 1999. Its earliest vehicles belong to the closing years of Era V, while most current models featuring Vectron and TRAXX locomotives and intermodal trains belong to Era VI.

Which Locomotives Are Typical of TX Logistik?

Siemens Vectron locomotives of Class 193 and TRAXX locomotives from Classes 185, 186 and 187 are particularly typical. Leased vehicles belonging to different owners are also used.

Why Does a TX Locomotive Also Carry Railpool or ELL Branding?

Railpool and ELL are leasing companies. They may own the locomotive while TX Logistik leases and operates it. Several company logos can therefore appear on the same vehicle.

What Does OFFROAD Mean at TX Logistik?

OFFROAD is a distinctive design highlighting the movement of freight away from roads and onto rail. The locomotive is particularly suitable for pocket wagons carrying semi-trailers and other vehicles used in combined transport.

Which Wagons Suit a TX Logistik Locomotive?

T3000e and T5 pocket wagons, container wagons, tank wagons, sliding-tarpaulin wagons, coil wagons and car transporters are particularly suitable. The wagons do not all need to carry TX Logistik branding.

Are TX Logistik Locomotives Available for Märklin H0?

Yes. Several Vectron and TRAXX models are offered as H0 AC or centre-contact versions. Check the pickup shoe, digital decoder, supported protocol and minimum radius before purchasing.

Which Gauge Is Best for TX Logistik?

H0 offers the largest direct locomotive selection and highly detailed wagons. N gauge is particularly suitable for long intermodal trains within a small area. TT provides a good compromise between vehicle size and possible train length.

Does a TX Logistik Locomotive Need Functional Overhead Wiring?

Current-carrying overhead wiring is normally unnecessary for model operation. A visually complete overhead-line system with suitable masts nevertheless increases the credibility of a modern electrified main line.

How Long Should a TX Logistik Model Train Be?

Four to six wagons are sufficient on a small layout. Larger H0 layouts can accommodate eight to twelve wagons, while considerably longer trains are possible in N gauge. Passing loops, storage tracks and locomotive performance determine the practical maximum length.
