Description

Kres 6702D BR 670 double-decker-rail bus, 670 002-5 "Alma", KSR, Ep. VI (digital) Product Details

About the model: The BR 670 KSR Ep.VI "Alma" double-decker rail bus belonging to Era VI is a high-quality model of the Kres brand. The model impresses with its prototypical appearance with the finest printing. The rail bus also has impressive headlights and marker lights that depend on the direction of travel as well as functional interior lighting. All other details can be found under the features.

About the prototype: In the mid-1990s, a double-decker rail bus was commissioned by the German Railroad at the former Dessau Wagon Works. With many parts from bus construction and a vehicle chassis in lightweight steel construction, this vehicle was to be considerably lighter and cheaper to run than conventional rail vehicles.

The "demonstrator" 670 000 was followed by a further six pilot series vehicles. They were used on the Weimar-Kranichfeld, Bullay-Traben-Trarbach and Moselweinbahn lines and later on the Stendal-Tangermünde line.

A major disadvantage of these rail buses, apart from the lack of a toilet, was the inability to tow each other or to run in double or multiple traction. Due to their high susceptibility to breakdowns and other technical problems such as air conditioning and engine cooling, their use was discontinued after a short time.

The vehicles were later sold, partially refurbished and used again for special trips. 670 002 was purchased by Köstner-Schienenbusreisen (KSR) in 2011 and is now used for excursions in the Chemnitz/Erzgebirge region.
