What railway themes does the new TT range open up?

A steam locomotive hauling green Rekowagen rebuilt coaches, a blue and yellow double-deck train or modern goods wagons behind a diesel locomotive: this selection opens up plenty of possibilities for your TT layout in 1:120 scale. Discover locomotives, railcars, passenger coaches and goods wagons from eras III to VI, and compare vehicle types, railway operators and versions.

Start with your favourite theme: branch lines, local passenger services or freight handling. Which locomotive do you already have, which coaches or wagons are missing, and how long can your train be? This gives you a manageable wish list for your fleet. You can find further ranges in the Roco new releases overview.

Steam, diesel and electric traction in TT

DR, ČSD and PKP: steam locomotives with character

The selection of TT steam locomotives ranges from the DR Class 38 to Class 86 tank locomotives and their international relatives. The 86 1591-6, catalogue number 7180020, represents a DR locomotive from era IV. ROCO specifies a boiler version without a bell, seven spokes on the leading and trailing wheelsets, and allocation to Aue depot. This makes it particularly interesting for a layout with a connection to Saxony.

Sound version 7190020 accompanies the analogue version. The DR Class 38, ČSD Class 455.2 and PKP TKt3 are also available to choose from. When comparing similar versions, check the exact catalogue number and era. The selection also includes matching passenger coaches and luggage vans for ČSD and PKP themes.

For a clearly defined layout concept, you can start by focusing on one of these railway operators. Your station, signage and rolling stock can then follow that theme. If you collect models from different countries, separate train formations allow you to show off their different liveries and alternate between them during operating sessions.

Diesel families from the DR to modern freight services

The TT diesel locomotives offer several distinct themes. DR enthusiasts will find 112 276-1 and 120 050-0 in era IV. Class 232 is represented by DB AG, SBW and PMT versions. For smaller operating duties, Class 261, Class 365 and the PRESS version of Class 363 complete the range. This also lets you organise your selection by shunting and main-line duties.

Among the Czech prototypes, Classes 751, 749 and 753.6 take centre stage. The similarly named ČD Cargo models 7380036 and 7380037 are two different livery versions: red and grey, and blue respectively. The first represents a locomotive previously operated by Rail Cargo Carrier. Both are also available with sound. The CZ Loko version and the Class 751 Collector’s Edition provide further choices.

Electric locomotives for S-Bahn, regional and long-distance services

The TT electric locomotive range includes Classes 111, 145, 146, 182 and 185, as well as ÖBB Class 1116. The 111 147-5 in S-Bahn livery makes a striking impression with its orange colour scheme. ROCO lists it as a DB model from era IV. Within this selection, it lends itself well to a City-Bahn theme.

Other highlights include Class 146 “Felsenbühne Rathen”, the TRI Class 145 and Class 185 in DB AG and Captrain versions. Many locomotives are offered in both non-sound and sound versions. Railway operator and era can help you choose, as can the colour scheme you want for the train as a whole.

Railjet “175 Years of Railways in Austria”

The red and white Railjet forms a theme of its own among the new releases. The five-piece basic set 6280096 already includes a Class 1116 locomotive and four coaches: two economy-class coaches, a dining car and a driving trailer. It is therefore a train set. The add-on set 6280097 adds a first-class coach and two further economy-class coaches.

Version 6290096 offers sound and is paired with the illuminated add-on set 6290097. ROCO specifies current-conducting couplings and digitally switchable lighting functions for this combination. When assembling your train, take care to pair the corresponding basic and add-on versions.

The project is a collaboration between Saxonia and ROCO. The manufacturer’s catalogue gives 2028 as the planned year and makes production conditional on reaching a minimum quantity. Take this information into account when planning your collection. For your layout design, it is already worth considering station lengths, storage sidings and the space required for the complete train.

M 152 and Class 810: compact railcar formations

The M 152.0478 with trailer car, catalogue number 7780011, is an option for a Czechoslovak branch-line theme. The ČSD formation belongs to era IV and carries a red livery with a yellow band across the front. Sound version 7790011 adds digitally switchable high-beam headlights, headlights and tail lights, and interior lighting. Separate trailer car 7790012 offers another car to accompany the M 152.

The Class 810 with trailer car, meanwhile, represents a ČD theme from era V. Here, you can choose between 7780013 and sound version 7790013; the additional trailer car is numbered 7790014. According to ROCO, both separate trailer cars have digitally switchable interior lighting and tail lights. In analogue operation, their interior lighting can be switched using a touch function. You can find further compact vehicles among the TT railcars.

Add the right passenger coaches and goods wagons

From Rekowagen rebuilt coaches to double-deck trains

The TT passenger coaches offer several coherent themes. For the DR, there are Rekowagen sets 6280064 and 6280065, rebuilt Donnerbüchse coaches, a Baai and the Daai luggage van. ČSD and PKP are represented by coaches of different classes, as well as luggage vans. If you want to build a train formation, you can first choose your preferred era, then select passenger coaches and luggage vans within that theme.

An eye-catching choice is the “Leipziger Messe” double-deck coach set, catalogue number 6280091. The blue and yellow DR coaches add a distinctive trade-fair theme to the range. DB AG double-deck sets and TRI local passenger coaches are also available. According to the manufacturer, City-Bahn set 6290090 belongs to Deutsche Bundesbahn, era IV. It includes three coaches, one of which is a driving trailer whose function decoder controls the white and red directional lighting.

Check which vehicles are already included in each set. A driving trailer may be part of a set or a separate item. First- and second-class designations also help when comparing models. This lets you avoid unwanted duplicates and select individual coaches for additional train formations.

Open wagons, sliding-tarpaulin wagons and intermodal transport

The selection of TT goods wagons ranges from brake vans to modern freight wagons. Eanos sets are available in several operators’ liveries. These are joined by sliding-tarpaulin wagons from DR, On Rail, Ermewa, Mercitalia Rail, VTG and Enercon. The different colours offer scope for both a uniform-looking train and a mixed wagon fleet.

Further highlights include the Taoos potash wagon sets, the weathered DR funnel-flow tank wagons and the “66 Years of ROCO” wagon. Wascosa and Hupac T5 pocket wagons are available for intermodal transport. The Wascosa model 6680065 carries an LKW WALTER semi-trailer. Brake vans such as Pwgs, Daa and Ds-k offer a collecting theme of their own alongside these. Choose their illuminated versions by catalogue number, as the lighting equipment differs.

Decide on a purpose for your freight loading area: will wagons be collected regularly, will a longer through freight train be the focus, or would you like to shunt on just a few tracks? Your answer will help you match the number of wagons to the space available for operating locations.

Five train ideas to start your planning

The following suggestions group the models by shared themes. They are ideas for your layout. To reproduce a specific prototype train, you will also need evidence of its formation, operating location and period.

  1. DR passenger train from era IV: Start with 112 276-1 or 86 1591-6 and select Rekowagen rebuilt coaches to go with it. A luggage van adds further possibilities for your station scene.
  2. ČSD branch line from era III: Consider Class 455.2 alongside the ČSD Donnerbüchse coaches. Coaches of different classes and a luggage van can be brought together into a clearly defined theme.
  3. Local passenger services in orange: Discover Class 111 in S-Bahn livery together with City-Bahn set 6290090. ROCO specifies the S12 Köln-Nippes–Au (Sieg) route for both.
  4. Era VI freight services: Compare modern diesel or electric locomotives with open wagons, sliding-tarpaulin wagons and pocket wagons. Then decide whether your train should represent a single type of freight operation or a mixed wagon fleet.
  5. Austrian long-distance services: Combine the Railjet basic set with its corresponding add-on set. Allow for the complete train when planning the length of your platforms and storage sidings.

The overviews of model railway eras and railway operators will help you narrow down your selection further.

Digital checklist: compare versions and functions correctly

Check the specifications of the exact model

Similar names can refer to different levels of equipment. Always compare the complete Roco catalogue number. The model class and appearance alone will not tell you whether a decoder is fitted or which functions can be switched.

Locomotive drive and sound

For Class 86, 7180020 identifies the analogue version with a Next18 interface, while 7190020 has a digital decoder and sound. The corresponding DR Class 112 versions use a PluX16 interface. An interface allows a compatible decoder to be fitted. It does not mean that a decoder is already installed. The decoder guide offers further help.

Lighting functions in the accompanying coaches

A function decoder controls functions such as the lighting in a driving trailer or trailer car. Separate trailer cars 7790012 and 7790014 have these lighting functions, but are not sound-equipped railcars. In Railjet basic set 6280096, too, the decoder information for the driving trailer must be distinguished from the locomotive’s equipment. For add-on set 6290097, interior lighting and current-conducting couplings are the key features.

The driving trailers in 6290071 and 6290090, as well as TRI driving trailer 6290089, also have function decoders for directional lighting. ROCO lists their interior lighting as available for retrofitting. If you want to assemble an illuminated train, distinguish between existing exterior lighting, factory-fitted interior lighting and lighting that can be added later.

Check before running models together

Your checklist should cover the track system, operating mode, couplings, minimum radius and desired lighting functions. Read the relevant product description for these details. The basics of digital model railways and the comparison of Roco Z21 and z21 will help you develop your layout further.

Frequently asked questions about this selection of new releases

Why is the page called Autumn New Releases 2026 when ROCO specifies 2027?

The page title refers to the presentation in autumn 2026. The official manufacturer’s catalogue is titled TT New Releases 2027. Individual projects have their own planning information.

What gauge are the models shown here?

This selection covers TT gauge in 1:120 scale. When adding to your existing fleet, continue to check operating mode, couplings and the requirements of your track layout.

Are the two ČD Cargo Class 753.6 locomotives listed twice?

No. 7380036 and 7380037 are different livery versions. Both are also available as sound versions with their own catalogue numbers.

Does the five-piece Railjet set already include a locomotive?

Yes. The basic set includes a Class 1116 locomotive and four coaches. The matching three-piece add-on set consists entirely of additional coaches.

What should I bear in mind about the Railjet project?

ROCO gives 2028 as the planned year in the catalogue. Production of the joint project with Saxonia depends on reaching a minimum quantity.

Do trailer cars 7790012 and 7790014 have sound?

They are trailer cars with switchable lighting functions. The sound-equipped sets with a powered railcar have catalogue numbers 7790011 and 7790013.

Does City-Bahn set 6290090 belong to DB AG?

ROCO assigns this set to Deutsche Bundesbahn and era IV. This classification determines its theme on this page.

Can I combine coaches and wagons from different eras?

You decide how to arrange your own layout. To reproduce a specific prototype, check for overlapping operating periods and historical train formations; matching gauge alone is not enough.

Where can I find help with suitable track planning?

The pages on Roco TT track and TT track sets will help you get started. Allow for the space required by your longest train and the curve radii required by your chosen vehicles.
